Join Chris Edgerton in Supporting Waldenström’s

Macroglobulinemia Research at Mayo Clinic

Chris Edgerton was diagnosed with  Waldenström’s Macroglobulinemia in July 2017. Shortly after his diagnosis, Chris signed up to cycle 3,500 miles from Los Angeles to Boston, in order to improve his fitness. Chris starts his ride at Manhattan Beach, CA on May 13, 2018, and the ride will last 48 days. He will cycle an average of 79 miles a day. The shortest day on the ride is 40 miles (mostly uphill), and the longest day is 116 miles (mostly downhill). Chris will cross 15 state lines, and climb a total elevation of 90,039 ft. He will end his ride in Revere Beach, MA on June 29, 2018.

Waldenström’s Macroglobulinemia is a rare blood cancer that affects approximately 1,500 people every year in the United States. This disease is characterized by abnormal lymphocytes and increased levels of plasma cells in the bone marrow, lymph nodes and spleen. It also produces an abnormal protein (monoconal IgM protein) that circulates in the blood. In spite of challenges, with new treatments and medical discoveries, people are now living longer with the disease. Mayo supports one of the largest Waldenström’s Macroglobulinemia research efforts in the country. With your support, we aim to make meaningful research advances, increase successful treatment outcomes, and improve the quality of life for patients with this form of blood cancer for which we do not yet have a cure.

With your donation in honor of Chris’s 3,500 mile cycle ride from Los Angeles to Boston, you are helping Mayo Clinic in their aim of making meaningful research advances and increase successful outcomes, while improving quality of life for patients living with this so far incurable blood cancer.
